Jane Street is a quantitative proprietary trading firm that operates around the clock and around the globe. They bring a deep understanding of markets, a scientific approach, and innovative technology to bear on the problem of trading profitably in the world's highly competitive financial markets.

The decision to relocate from Broadgate Circle was to improve trading conditions, invest in the office infrastructure and to prepare themselves for their future expansion. Insight joined Jane Street at the start of their project, assisting in their new building search, technically vetting and space planning each potential building and following a process of vetting in excess of 40 buildings, we narrowed their search to the one feasible site, 10 Chiswell Street.

Jane Street’s requirements were unique, requiring a mere 9,900 square feet yet needing over a megawatt of power. Insights challenge was first in finding a site in which we could accommodate a new EDF substation to provide the power. We also had to overcome the technical challenge of designing a flawless backup system to the same power requirements and then a cooling system to dissipate the huge heat generation.

The following items are just some of the new technology utilised (and in some cases, developed for) the Jane Street project;

• Trading desks cooled with Liquid Carbon Dioxide, capable of cooling 1.3kW per desk
• Forced air cooled communications suite capable of cooling up to 25kW per cabinet
• Full dual redundant power and mechanical systems design to N 1
• 1.3 Megawatt generator and UPS system ensuring permanent "uptime" without a break in service
• New 1 Megawatt EDF substation
